WEDNESDAY ON CLASSICAL DISCOVERIES GOES AVANT-GARDE
Wednesday, June 01, 2011 from 11:00am till 1:00pm

Entire program was devoted to American composer Morton Feldman (1926-87).

Marvin was hosting Dustin Hurt, organizer of American Sublime, a festival devoted to the singular music of Morton Feldman, Saturday, June 4 - Sunday, June 12.

This ambitious event - one of the largest surveys of his music ever mounted in the US - includes seven concerts at venues throughout Philadelphia, with performances by some of the leading Feldman interpreters of our time: JACK Quartet; singer Joan LaBarbara; Flux Quartet; the Either/Or ensemble; pianists Marilyn Nonken, Amy Williams, and Gordon Beeferman; and cellist Jonathan Golove. AMERICAN SUBLIME focuses on music from the last years of Feldman’s life, nearly all of it heard for the first time in Philadelphia. The centerpiece is an extremely rare performance of his monumental, six-hour String Quartet No. 2, which concludes the festival at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral on June 12.
