Composer Wojciech Kilar is a regular feature on Classical Discoveries and the Avant-Garde Edition and is very well known to regular listeners for both concert music and film scores.
For most people, Kilar is little known as a composer of concert music but has written 5 symphonies, choral music, solo piano pieces as well as works for chamber orchestra.
Born in 1932, Kilar wrote music for over 100 movies and is best known here in the USA for horror movie scores, especially for Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and Roman Polanski's " The Ninth Gate", but for the last 10 years has devoted most of his time to writing music, other than for movies.
Kilar has also composed some avant-garde works which was presented in the final hour of this program.
