LISTENERS COMMENTS ABOUT CLASSICAL DISCOVERIES |
| Subject: Thanks! |
| Dear Marvin, Your show is a godsend – I have been listening regularly for the last two years, ever since reading Alex Ross’s The Rest is Noise. There is so much wonderful music out there of which I was unaware for so long. Thank you! Last Wednesday, Feb. 2nd, you played a piece by a Japanese composer, Togawa Yoichi, Fragments of the Wind, and you reference a recording in your playlist that I cannot find on the internet. Is it available? Thanks again,....................... M Ml R. Y |

I should have said that we loved your radio show in my former email.
Perhaps that was obvious since we want to buy some of the music you played!

| Dear Dr. Rosen,
It was so great to hear the selection by Barbara Benary and listen to your talk about Son of Lion Gamelan this morning! I never hear pieces on the radio by people I actually KNOW, lol! It brought back a lot of memories... ...........
Anyway, it was a treat and made the snowy drive to work fun! LOVE your program.... wish it was on Monday and Tuesday mornings too! Thanks!.............

| Dear Marvin,
I was listening to Radio 3's breakfast show in the car this morning and heard that Jennifer Higdon's violin concerto was currently number 6 in the specialist classical chart. I had heard this composer's music lots of times on your show, but this is the first time I had heard of her in another context.
I am looking forward to hearing your show online tomorrow, as usual. Thanks for continuing this rich and exciting program, whose unique approach I hope is perhaps exercising an influence here in the UK, on Radio 3.
All the best,...............

| Dear Marvin,
You're just what this world needs - a passionate man. Seriously, many thanks for putting on this 24 hour marathon! I've been with you from the start. Shame about the CD player but with 18 inch snow drifts circumnavigated I don't doubt the CD player won't call a permanent halt to proceedings! Lovely to hear so many of my recordings in a selection all of your own..........
Anyway, God bless you for this and every best wish for a Happy New Year to you and yours. I'm ever so glad that you've managed to actualise your desirre and that WPRB have provided you with the opportunity. Let's hope that this Hovhaness blast into the ethers of this earth will result in more playings!
Thank you once again for a truly marvellous show.....................,

| Thanks for all the music. It's been an amazing and wonderful day and night! I'm afraid I wasn't awake for the whole thing, but appreciate all the planning and effort (not to mention endurance... you deserve a good sleep after this!) that went into the project. The music has been fantastic and I enjoyed hearing pieces that I'd never heard before along with all the discussions and interviews....................

| Hello - I heard a few amazing pieces yesterday morning around 9am. I think this was during the international Christmas music bit. First off - GREAT selections! The piece of the latvian composer was amazing and the one before that kept me in awe. But I can't remember the name of the pieces of music! HELP! And where would you recommend getting a hold of them for myself??
I hope you can help!

| Dear Marvin,
Again you brought the joy of musical discovery to my day yesterday! The piece with handbells (I didn't catch the composer) was eerie and wonderful. I was in the car, and its backup beep tone was underscored by repeating bell tones in the exact same pitch. The Gloria Coates pieces was also a revelation.
Here's a belated shout-out as well for your show that included the gamelan work by Lou Harrison. Wow! A man ahead of his time! Such confidence and energy. That also made my day.
Thank you for bringing your stellar programming to the air.

Just a quick, EXTREMELY enthusiastic note about this morning’s programming! I caught the Parsons as I got in the car to go to work; it made my morning (and the Baroque Magnificat just continued it!) That being said, as I was typing I heard that the whole playlist for today will be up on your website, so I won't stress about finding the name of the composer who's name I missed, who's awesome music was played by the Detroit Orchestra, around 9:45 today...............................It once again made my morning wake up, a better experience.

Dear Mr. Rosen,
Late this morning, PRB on in the background, while I was unsuccessfully doing what passes for multitasking for an old codger, some wonderful strains of a solo string instrument penetrated thru. "It's Hovaness," I said to myself, "it must be Marvin Rosen's doing." I was right. Thank you for playing the beautiful sonata for unaccompanied viola. I had never heard it before. And thanks in general for the Wednesday moderns program.
Also thanks too for being a part of the Evergreen Forum. " American Music" should be well received..................................

wonderful contemporary music. When our, and your, schedules meshed

| Good Morning Marvin,
I am listening, as usual................................
Once again I want to express my appreciation for how much you have broadened my classical music boundries by exposing me to lesser known artists who at times literally blow me away- I mean I stop and just listen and absorb. I certainly can’t afford to buy everything so note those that I feel I must have. I like all genres of music and have a healthy library but I’m not a “musicologist” I know what I like.
In the ever evolving (not always for the better) music world/industry- listeners, artists and labels owe volunteer/community djs like you a huge debt because you stand as a picket line against the mind numbing homogenization of Clear Channel et al.
