BIRTHDAY MANTRAS FOR ROSS EDWARDS

Classical Discoveries 75Th Birthday Tribute

born 23 December 1943

Whole program will be devoted to the works of Ross Edwards, an Australian composer, little known in the USA.
His music, universal in that it is concerned with age-old mysteries surrounding humanity, is at the same time connected to its roots in Australia, whose cultural diversity it celebrates, and from whose natural environment it draws inspiration, especially birdsong and the mysterious patterns and drones of insects. As a composer living and working on the Pacific Rim, he is conscious of the exciting potential of this vast region.

He has written some of the most rhythmically exciting music of our time.

Included on this Ross Edwards edition of Classical Discoveries will be:
Arafura Dances - Concerto for Guitar and Strings (1994-1995)
Concerto for Piano and Orchestra(1982)
Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra (2002)
Flower Songs for 16 part choir and 2 percussionists (1986-1987)
A Flight of Sunbirds (Nine Bagatelles for Piano Duet) (2001)
Full Moon Dances (Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra) (2011)
